What is Varicocele?

Varicocele is a disease that occurs with the dilation of the vessels around the testicle. With adolescence, varicocele occurs as a result of the vein entry angle of the veins from the testicle differentiating and reaching its final degree. Varicocele, causing infertility in men; however, it is a treatable disease. Most of the patients consult a doctor for infertility and they are more likely to encounter varicocele diagnosis. Its incidence in adults is between 15% and 20%.

The testicle can produce sperm up to 1.5 degrees below body temperature. Varicocele discomfort causes heat to increase in the testicle. This situation; It causes infertility by disrupting the number, quality, mobility and normal structure of sperms.

If we look at the intervention criteria in adolescence, it is necessary to perform varicocele surgery without losing time in the presence of bilateral varicocele presence, one of the testicles being developmentally small compared to the other, low values ​​in the spermiogram examination in late adolescence. In older ages, varicocele surgery is mostly considered in couples who will have IVF.

What are the symptoms of varicocele?

The diagnosis of varicocele can be made as a result of the examination by the urologist. In addition to the examination, performing scoltal doppler ultrasound is a imaging method that clarifies the diagnosis of varicocele.

Some symptoms of varicocele disease include:

• Infertility complaint,
• Swelling, pain complaints in testicles,
• Diminished testicle sizes,
• Sagging in the testicles and gathering together vascular swellings.

After 1 year of regular intercourse in couples who want to have a child, when pregnancy does not occur, it should be investigated whether there is a problem in the male. Male examinations are more effortless and lower cost than women.

Some of the couples who have varicocele discomfort in men and are considered to be treated with the IVF method may reach their baby's wishes by natural methods after varicocele surgery.

Varicocele Surgery and After

There is no medical treatment for varicocele disease. Surgical applications are the only method for varicocele treatment. There are several surgical options; however, the proposed surgery is “Microscopic Varicocelectomy” surgery and is performed by microsurgery method. Microscopic Varicocelectomy is an operation technique in which the arteries and lymph vessels are protected and the veins are attached. Microscopic varicocelectomy, which is a closed method, is performed with a 2-3 cm incision from the groin area. A special microscope is used in this surgery. Successful results are obtained with microscopic varicocelectomy surgery applied for varicocele treatment in male infertility.

If the varicocele is unilateral, the operation takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. If the varicocele is bilateral, the operation lasts for 1.5 - 2 hours. Our patient needs to be hospitalized for 1 day, and a few days later the person can return to normal life.

Varicocele Surgery and Results

Unless the problem of varicocele, which starts with adolescence, is corrected, the development of the testicle and quality sperm production, which tend to work in a cooler environment from the abdomen to the outside, can be interrupted in some patient groups. It should always be kept in mind that it may be late when this deterioration begins, and the ideal time for intervention should be determined by the decision of the physician and surgical intervention should be made before it is late.

It is seen that sperm exits after surgery in people who have never seen sperm when they apply to the hospital with varicocele complaints. Micro TESE method applied for sperm search; However, in patients without sperm, the need for treatment with varicocele surgery is seen. After varicocele surgery, sperm rate increases with micro TESE method.
