RADIOFREQUENCY APPLICATION IN NASAL MEAT TREATMENT

What is Radiofrequency?

Radiofrequency is a technology that has been increasingly used in medicine in recent years. In this method, radio waves are given into the tissue at certain frequencies by means of electrodes. Thanks to these radio waves, a local temperature increase occurs in the tissue.
Shrinkage and hardening occur in the tissue without causing any damage to the mucosa of the place where it is used. Thus, it creates a decrease in the volume in which it is applied.
What does nasal swelling (turbinate hypertrophy) mean?
Cones have three on each side of the nose. The most common discomfort clinically is turbinate hypertrophy (growth), almost always occurring in the lower concha. Although this growth in the lower concha is often caused by soft tissue, it may also be bone growth or growth of both structures.

Lower turbinate hypertrophy is one of the most important causes of chronic nasal congestion. In the treatment of turbinate hypertrophy, if there is no response to drug treatment, surgical treatment should be applied. Treatment of lower turbinate swelling with radiofrequency (RF) has become frequently used in recent years due to its successful results and low complication rate.

When is Radiofrequency performed in the ENT area?

• It is especially applied in patients where nasal meats called concha swell and prevent breathing.
• Snoring and simple apnea patients with small tongue, sagging and thickening in soft palate; more rarely, it can be applied to patients with tongue swelling.
• The heat generated in the tissue with radiofrequency energy causes the secretion cells located under the mucosa to decrease in number. This enables, for example, to reduce unwanted excessive runny nose in patients with allergic fever.

How to reduce nose or palate with radiofrequency?

Energy is given to the tissue with a special electrode at a certain frequency and power. During the procedure, no incisions are made in the nose or palate. Stitches are not discarded after the operation. It takes about 5-10 minutes. In operation, no tampon is placed in the nose.

Can radiofrequency be applied again?

The radiofrequency process, which can be applied very safely and comfortably in the treatment of lower nasal meat growths that affect the quality of life, is 80% successful in one session. If sufficient results are not obtained, there is no harm in repeating the procedure after the 3-month waiting period.

What awaits the patient in the operation and post-process?

• The most important advantage of radiofrequency is that it is a controlled method, so it does not cause damage to the surface of the tissue.
• There is no pain or mild pain after surgery. Simple painkillers can be used.
• The patient's odor functions are not impaired.
• There is no bruising and swelling in the eyes after nose reduction surgery.
• Plaster is not placed in the nose.
• After the operation, the patient can wear glasses and go out in the sun.
• There is no deformity or collapse in the patient's nose.
• There is no nutritional restriction related to radiofrequency in nasal conchas.
• Radiofrequency process is performed in sterile conditions in the operating room in our hospital.
• The patient is prevented from feeling pain by giving very light anesthesia during the operation.
• The patient can go home 3-4 hours after the operation.
• No tampons are placed in the nose during the operation.
